A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS: A STUDY IN SECOND PETER

Introduction

Peter most likely wrote his second letter from
prison in Rome shortly after his first letter to the
church in Asia Minor. This letter was sent in
response to receiving word that there were false
teachers in the area that may attempt to fill the hole
in the church upon his death.
False teachers are still present today. They continue
to lead Christians away from a path of
righteousness, full of grace and peace, as well as
those who may be seeking truth and Salvation.
Peter focuses his message on who these false
prophets are, what their intentions are, and how we
can recognize them. Although their messages may
change with the times, their character does not.
Peter encourages us to lean into God’s Word and
know His character in order to identify their
manipulations of the truth. Although it may feel like
God is taking His time before returning for His
church and executing His judgement on those who
deny Him, we are reminded that it is only because
of His immense love for all people, that He waits.
Nevertheless, we are to be ready, for He will return
without warning, destroy the earth with fire, and set
up a new kingdom on a new earth!
